Procrastination? Or a Winning Team?
Procrastination happens when your subconscious mind is resisting you doing the task, making the change or what ever it is you are procrastinating about.
This is based on fear, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Why would you or one of your staff be afraid of completing a task? Well perhaps you fear being criticized if it is not perfect, even if you are the one who may feel it is not good enough. Perhaps you don’t want the next job. There are a myriad of reasons you can dream up to cause you to resist doing something.
You know you need to do something but you can’t seem to get started.
Our subconscious minds are programmed to protect us from danger and as times change and our needs change, we fail to update our subconscious minds.
Not getting started is usually a subconscious fear of change, even when the change is helpful in present circumstances.
Procrastination happens when your subconscious mind is resisting you doing the task, making the change or what ever it is you are procrastinating about. Fear stops business owners and managers from making the changes they need for greater productivity.
You see this so often when people talk about management systems. The real fear is change and something unknown, even if it is better and simpler.
This fear brings up stories from other people you know who support your fear. Fear of too much paper, fear of extra work and time, fear of change. It is always easier to find supporters for fear than for taking action.

I could rattle on with lots of other examples, but I just ask you to stop and deeply think.
• How much time do you or someone in your business waste every week patching up mistakes?
• Chasing up a message that was not passed on and caused a problem?
• Looking for something that was misfiled or misplaced?

How much time could you save if everyone delivered consistent service? If everyone was on the same page and pulling together as a real team?
Do you remember the Olympic Games where one girl in a rowing 8 stopped rowing just before the end and lost the race? She was exhausted and not pulling totally with the team.
That rowing crew is a real metaphor for many businesses. Not quite as dramatic perhaps but more pernicious because it is lots of small things often happening on a daily basis. Your business is not running as smoothly as it could.
Another metaphor is a car engine with one cylinder or spark plug malfunctioning. Not really the smooth engine you want.
Stop and think again. . .
